April 2013 enewsletter
Dear members,
Thankfully the weather is now improving and more tennis is being played, both socially and competitively. Let’s hope this continues!
Once again, it’s a long e-newsletter this month – with a lot of upcoming urgent deadlines, so please read carefully!
President’s Cup – PLAYERS URGENTLY NEEDED!
This is scheduled to take place on Sunday 21st April – 9.30am for 10.00am start. The cost is £5 per player plus a refreshment donation.
I am currently 2 men short for this event to take place. It would be a real shame to cancel the first tournament of the season, so if you would like to play, plese email me by tomorrow (Thursday) evening when I shall make a decision on whether or not the tournament will go ahead.
2013 Membership
Thank you to all of you have rejoined the Club this year. There are, however, several current members who have not yet rejoined and I am afraid that you have now missed the 10% discount deadline of 31st March. If you are intending to rejoin, please send your completed form together with payment to Sarah Hollis (Treasurer) as soon as possible. If you are not intending to rejoin, then please could you let me know by email to arrange the return of your Club keys. Don’t forget – if you have not rejoined by the end of April you will not be eligible for the Wimbledon ticket ballot.
HOSPITAL CUP – URGENT (deadline approaching this Friday)!
The deadline for entries for this year’s competition is this Friday (19th April). It really would be great to support this event, so if you would like to enter singles or doubles events, please email either Daphne Lunnon or myself as soon as possible. It is important to remember that this is a Charity tournament. The Club will pay all entry fees for each competitor and the money then goes to Saffron Walden Hospital – so the more entries we submit, the greater the donation for the charity. Go on, either by yourself or get together with a friend…. give it a go, regardless of your standard!
WIMBLEDON 2013 BALLOT
Now that we are affiliated to the LTA, the Club has been very fortunate in receiving 6 pairs of tickets for this year’s Wimbledon Championships. The Club is now in the process of arranging its own ballot for these tickets. All STC members, who are also British Tennis Members (BTMs) via the LTA (www.LTA.org.uk/membership ), are eligible to enter the ballot. The deadline for entries is 5pm on Tuesday 30th April and the draw will take place at 7pm in the Clubhouse on Wednesday 1st May. If you have not done so already, please either email me, or sign up on the sheet in the Clubhouse.
