It’s a very long one this month! Please read carefully as there is a lot of relevant information which may affect you! There is also a new innovation at the end.

Please note, that to qualify for the discounted rate, you need to renew your STC membership by 31st March.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING:
15 members attended the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 28th February. The new committee were elected at the meeting. The committee consists of: Janet Hollis – President, Richard Shervington – Honorary Vice President, Chris Hollis – Chairman, Jon Budd – Secretary, Ash Huggonson – Treasurer, Fiona Pye – Membership Secretary, Debbie Lane – General Member. A very big thank you to Daphne Lunnon who donated a beautiful “Stansted Tennis Club” plaque which we hope will soon be in position for all to admire.
Plea for “Friends of the Committee”:
We would really love to hear from you if you would like to add your name to the list to those who have already volunteered. It is not a daunting task, but just shows a willingness to help the committee with various tasks during the year.
Ladders:
Please email me if you are keen to take part in any of the ladders, which are played over the summer months. As well as the usual Ladies’ Singles, Men’s Singles, Junior (Primary) Singles and Junior (Secondary) Singles, I would like to hear from any members who would like the opportunity to practice playing doubles with a partner of their choice. So, If you would like to play Men’s Doubles, Ladies’ Doubles or Mixed Doubles, please get in touch. Ladders will only be run if there are enough players competing, so get in touch with your friends and let me know your partnerships.
Winter measures:
Please continue to observe winter measures in the clubhouse.
Wimbledon Ballot:
A big thank you to everyone who opted in to this year’s Wimbledon ballot. I have heard from the LTA that STC has been allocated 16 pairs of tickets, slightly down on last year, but still a healthy figure. The date for the STC Wimbledon ballot will be Wednesday 26th April at 7pm in the clubhouse. I shall be sending out full details shortly, so please watch this space!
Boyd Trophy:
16 ladies braved the cold weather last Friday to compete for the Boyd Trophy. Congratulations to Carol Cook and Lisa King, who beat Sue Armorgie and Diane Brown 6-4 in a very closely fought final. The winners of the Consolation draw were Val Ashwood and Sue Simpson. A bring and share lunch was enjoyed by the players during the event. The £35 profit from the tournament will be donated to Herts Mind Network.
Ladies’ Night:
The next Ladies’ Night will be on Monday 10th April starting at 7pm. All ladies welcome!
Mix ’n’ Match 2016/17:

Congratulations to Caroline Mott, who has been appointed captain of STC’s 3rd Ladies’ Team. If you had shown an interest in playing in League matches over the summer season, either Fiona Pye, Debbie Lane or Caroline should be getting in touch with you after the Fixtures Meeting on April 10th.

AND FINALLY!
I am introducing a monthly quiz at the end of the e-newsletter each month in order to make it slightly more interactive.
There will be 4 tennis related questions and all you need to do is to send me your answers by email within 48 hours of the e-newsletter being sent out. There will be a monthly prize for the winner. Please enter, even if you cannot answer all four questions as you may still be in for a shot at the prize. The responses with the highest number of correct answers will be placed in a hat from which the winner will be picked.
So here goes with this month’s questions.
Q1 Who won a Wimbledon Mixed Doubles title with her brother John in 1980?
Q2 A ball in play hits a bird flying over the court. Should the point be replayed?
Q3 How many pairs of tickets has STC been allocated by the LTA in this year’s Wimbledon Ballot.
Q4 Complete the following sequence: Poland, Italy, Great Britain,…………….?
Good luck and best wishes,
Chris
